Nepal Bike Hike Pokhara to Kathmandu
Pokhara to Kathmandu - an awe
inspiring off-road challenge for mountain biking adventurers. Cycle along
the mighty Himalayas. This is your chance to test your mountain biking
skills on remote paths otherwise used only by villagers and their buffalo or
holy cows. A remarkable adventure that puts you on the off road trail
linking two major cities in Nepal, Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Your
biking trip begins from Pokhara, an amazing place in the stunning backdrop
of Mt. Annapurna and Manaslu range and famous for its placid lakes. Rest of
the journey is tracing an assortment of broad foot paths, old jeep trails
and some technical single tracks. We make your way across remote territory
that's seldom visited by westerners. Challenging ascents as well as some
incredible descents combine to makes this special off-road biking a Great
biker's dream.
Duration: 10 Days. Best Time:
October to December & March to May. Focus: Culture,
People, villages, Stunning Mountain views & off road biking.
Experience: One need good experience on bikes and has to be fit to take
the challenge.
Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to
the hotel. Afternoon free or take an optional guided city tour. Overnight in
hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu - Pokhara Drive/fly to
Pokhara, the lake city at an altitude of 830m. Rest and prepare for the
biking trip. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03: Bike to Begnas Tal
Bike from Pokhara up to Kali village, here we turn off to descend
through the farm village to the shores of Begnas Tal. Begnas Lake, is the
second largest lake of Pokhara Valley is situated at an altitude of 650m. It
is located in the Siswa village on the eastern part of Pokhara and is 13 km
away from the Pokhara city. It covers an area of 3 sq. km. Average water
depth of the lake is 9.37 and the maximum water depth is 13.84m.
Day 04: Begnas Tal - Damauli Today we ride from hotel across
the Sundari Danda (ridge) from where we can see both Rupa and Begnas lakes
on right and left respectively. From here we climb steep uphill about 2 km
with altitude gain of 100m and again we have uphill of 2km with dense forest
and we reached to Saure Bhanjyang where jeep track ended and we take steep
downhill walking trail washed by monsoon rain but rideable on dry season.
We will bike via Baguwa village to Karpurtar through beautiful rice
fields where the intersection of three roads, one goes to Besisahar, one
goes to Sundari Bazar and one goes to Damauli (Karpurtar to Damauli 38km).
We ride towards Damauli via suspension bridge on Madhi and Mitini Khola and
stay in Damauli in a hotel.
Day 05: Damauli - Turture
Today's ride involves some down hills interspersed with a lot of
climb, with easy ride to Ghansi Kuwa (Grass cutter built well). From here we
take a left on the dirt red mud trail and climb to Ramjung Ki Vardan (5km
with 310m altitude gain); an old Rama temple over there. Then we ride
through single trek via Tanahu Gaon and forest and reach Mel Danda from
where we can see towering Fishtail mountain. After 1.5 hrs uphill and
downhill riding we reach Chainpur Maibahal and take a rest for half an hour
and head towards Turture. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 06:
Gorkha Near the start of the Annapurna Circuit trek, we cross the
Marshyangdi river and reach to the deserted airport and ride uphill and
downhill to the Luitel village, a remote village from where we can see
Fishtail mountain and Ganesh Himal. Then we descend down to the Daraundi
Khola and after crossing the river we reach Chepetar. From here it takes us
1hour to get into the main Gorkha road called 13km point and then we ride to
the Gorkha palace (1100 m). We ride around historical Durbar square of
Gorkha. Home of the Royal family and Gurkha soldiers, Gorkha has much of
historical interest. Overinight hotel.
Day 07: Arughat
A stunning action packed day, our ultimate goal, having made our wild
descent into the Buri Gandaki Valley to Arughat. Overnight hotel.
Day 08: Trishuli The only long section of trip, we ride and
drive via Dhading and Galchhi to Trisuli. Overnight hotel.
Day 09: Kathmandu An exciting mix of jeep track and single track,
today's ride is mostly uphill till Kakani (2080 m) intersection. Then trip's
glorious finale is a downhill fast descent via Raniban forest, which brings
us to the crowded capital city of Kathmandu. The long slog is rewarded by
spectacular views of the Himalayas. Overnight in hotel.
Day
10: Departure: Early morning departure transfer to the airport or take
one of our great Treks, rafting or wildlife experience in Chitwan National
Park.
